A solar PV ballast block is a dense concrete weight used to mount photovoltaic panels stably on roofs or grounds where drilling is not desirable. The ballast secures panels against wind, storms and other external forces purely through its mass.

What Is a PV Ballast Block?

In conventional mounting, panels are bolted into the roof or ground. When penetration is not possible, heavy concrete ballasts are used instead. They keep PV arrays in place under wind uplift and other environmental loads.

Application Areas

  • Industrial roofs: Stable mounting on large factory and warehouse roofs.
  • Commercial buildings: Drill-free installation on hotels, malls and offices.
  • Residential roofs: Damage-free mounting on rented or temporary buildings.
  • Ground-mount PV: Support weight on sites where ground penetration is restricted.

Advantages

  • Easy installation: Fast, drill-free mounting without roof damage.
  • High stability: Resists wind uplift and external loads.
  • Flexibility: Can be relocated or rearranged as needed.
  • Structural safety: Preserves roof waterproofing and structural integrity.

Selection Criteria

Roof slope and orientation, regional wind load and the required safety factor drive ballast sizing. Dense concrete is the most common choice for its durability and long service life. Özbeton can produce custom shapes and dimensions to match project requirements.
